Evelyn Brazitis

Evelyn Brazitis, 87 of Champaign Illinois passed away on April 6 at Accolade Healthcare in Paxton. 

Evelyn was born on January 29, 1931 in Herrin, IL to Charles E. and Loretta Cagle. Evelyn attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and then graduated from Olney Central College School of Nursing in 1980. Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, George E. Brazitis. George and Evelyn were married August 18th, 1950. They lived in Chicago until George graduated law school, then the couple moved to Olney where they raised their family. 

They had four children: Lynn E. (Charles) Bruff of Mahomet, Terry A. (Edward) Erwin of Lindenhurst, Gary E. (Ruth) Brazitis of Indianapolis, and Mark A. Brazitis of Oak Park. Evelyn is survived by: her children, and grandchildren, Corey (Jamie) Bruff, Chelsey (Kyle) Haines, Chris Erwin, and Nick (Corey) Brazitis, and Mike Brazitis. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and son, Mark. 

In 1948 Evelyn was the Herrin High School Homecoming Queen. While raising her family in Olney, Evelyn was always introducing new animals to the farm. There were always horses, cats, dogs, and strays to be found. She was very passionate about becoming a Registered Nurse. After all their children were grown, Evelyn followed her own dream and became an RN. Although she was not of Italian lineage, she learned how to cook Italian from her Mother-in-law. Lasagna, gnocchi, and raviolis, made from scratch, were frequently enjoyed in her kitchen. These recipes and traditions have been passed down to all her children.
