Dorothy Riehle

Dorothy Irene Riehle, 90, of Champaign  died on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at Helia Healthcare of Champaign. 

There will be a Memorial Mass on Friday, March 16 at 10:30am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 403 W. Clark, Champaign. Friends may greet the family after the Mass at a funeral luncheon in the Holy Cross Parish Center. Burial will take place at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa on Saturday, March 17. Owens Funeral Home, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Dorothy was born on Dec. 27, 1927 in Ottawa, a daughter of Audubon and Clara (Parr) Swanson. She married Edward Riehle on June 13, 1949 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her 2 sisters. 

She is survived by 3 children, Denise Riehle of Springfield, Jeffrey (Heather) Riehle of Broadlands and Jennifer (Chuck) Dorsett of Camargo; 5 grandchildren, Elise (Toby) Brown of Mahomet, Michelle Riehle of CA, Beth Riehle of HI, Marshall (Katie) Dorsett and Dillon (Alex) Dorsett, all of Camargo; and 3 great grandchildren, Vivian Riehle, Tucker Dorsett and McKinley Brown. 

Dorothy attained a Bachelor's degree from the U of I in physical education. Although her primary job was raising her 3 children, she found time to be a substitute teacher and volunteer throughout the community. She was an avid volunteer with Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Cross Parish and Voter Registration. Dorothy was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church for over 50 years and was also a proud alumni and supporter of Delta Zeta sorority.
