Champaign - Betty Blanco, 71, passed away on December 22nd, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Betty was born on February 7, 1947 in Coahoma, Mississippi. She was the daughter of James L. Scott and Odessa Broadway Scott. She graduated from Urbana High School and Parkland College. Prior to retirement, she was a funeral home counselor.
Betty married Vincent J. Blanco in 1968 in Champaign, Illinois. Their children, Juanita G. Blanco and Vincent J. Blanco, Jr., were born in New Orleans and they raised them in San Diego, California. In 2006, Betty returned to Champaign with her daughter. She was a parishioner at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana.
Betty will be remembered as a strong and kind woman full of intelligence and humor. She was protective and loving towards animals, especially her bird, Stanley, as well as her cats, Missy and Marvin. She loved sports, jewelry making, blues music, celebrations with her cousin Roosevelt, and attending live concerts with her daughter. She served the community and taught her children to do the same. Her children beamed with gratitude when she encouraged them to achieve and attended all of their activities including sports games, marching band performances, and both of their law school graduations.
Betty is survived by Vincent J. Blanco, daughter, Juanita G. Blanco, son, Vincent J. Blanco, Jr. and his wife Cindy, grandson, Tanoa Thome, and granddaughter, Areya G. Blanco, as well as several beloved cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Gardens in Urbana on Friday, December 28th at 11:00 am with Father Luke Spannagel presiding.
