Agnes Klein of Flint, Michigan and Urbana, Illinois died November 4, 2017 in Urbana at the age of 101.
Agnes was born January 13, 1916 in Saginaw, Michigan to new immigrants John and Frances Kania. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings Mary Porlas Keie and Frank Kania.
On November 20, 1941, Agnes married Mentford Klein at Holy Family Catholic Church in Saginaw. They made their home in Flint, where Mentford worked at Fisher Body Plant #1 for 35 years. Agnes was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. Her organizational and bookkeeping skills were indispensable to the family. An avid reader, her interests also included needlework, cooking, sewing and weaving, flea marketing, and travel after Mentford’s retirement in 1971. She was a frequent school volunteer and member of the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella at Saint Michael parish.
Agnes continued to live in Flint after Mentford’s death in 1979, moving to Urbana in 1996. She is survived and greatly missed by her children, Alvin Klein (Mary), of Urbana, and Karen Clark (Richard) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She leaves three grandchildren: Jeffrey Clark (Adriana) of Miami Shores, Florida; Emily Moldovan (Claudiu) of Charlotte; and George Klein of Urbana; and two great-grandchildren: David and Victoria Clark.
Agnes will be interred Saturday, June 15, 2019 in the Klein family’s plot at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Flint Township. Family and friends will celebrate the 9am Mass together on Sunday, June 16, at Saint Michael Oratory, Flint.
